The term EK-1 or Eerste Kwaliteit comes from Dutch and means “First Quality.” This designation is used for Indonesian Robusta coffee with a screen size of number 16.
Meanwhile, coffee labeled EK-1 Grade 4 (45 defects) is classified as Grade 4 according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), which refers to coffee with a defect level of around 45.
